UN HRC held 108th Session on Albania

On the 15-16 July 2013, the Albanian Government was under the Review of the UN Human Rights Committee, on the implementation of human rights under the International Covenant on the Civil and Political Rights.

For two days, the members of Committee put questions to the Albanian Delegation with regards to the legal and administrative framework on human rights, torture and ill treatment in places of deprivation of liberty, the role of ombudsman under the OPCAT,  the gender equality and domestic violence, rights of people with disabilities and rights of minorities (LGBT, Roma etc).  

Prior to the open session a special closed meeting with NGOs which presented shadow reports was held, where there was only one representative from the Albanian Rehabilitation Center for Trauma and Torture to present the Shadow report dedicated to the Session on Albania.

Sir Nigel Rodley, ChairPerson concluded his statement with concerns with regards to human rights situation in the country, cases of impunity and ill treatment reffered by ARCT. The Committee is expecting to have written replies from the Albanian Delegation within next 48 hours; then the Concluding Observations with concrete recommendations will be drafted for the attention of the Albanian Authorities,
